Laugh Track-

You see how nothing in this video is funny but the audience* continues to laugh? That’s kind of how my day was today. Except no one was laughing. Here’s a few moments in my day that a laugh track would go off if I were in a CBS comedy.

  •  When asked if there were any questions before we took the test, a young man raised his hand and said: “Yeah I have a question- when’s lunch?”. Thank heavens no one laughed, but again, if we were on a CBS comedy people would have gone nuts. Who was he trying to impress with that statement anyway? Lunch has been at the same time for him for 3 years- unless he has a copy of Jumanji at home and he travel’s through time often, he definitely knows what time lunch is. Moron.
  • We were having a lecture on President Taft’s contribution to nothingness when a guy in my class came through the door a half hour late. He was panting and shaking his head as he stood at the door entrance. The teacher then said “Are you oka-” the boy cut him off and then said “Don’t…ask”. It was uncomfortable for those of us in the class, but I think in his head he had his own laugh track. In fact, I’m not even positive a real laugh track would laugh at that.
  • In Spanish the teacher asked a student “¿Qué significa coche de bomberos?”. The student paused and then gave a grin and then said “si?”. So unbelievably not funny. I actually think answering with ‘burrito’ might be funnier than that…key word being ‘might’.

I suppose the point that I’m trying to make is that we live in a sit-com where we are able to take control of our own emotions. Two and a Half Men wouldn’t be considered a comedy if there wasn’t a laugh track. I would actually think that Charlie Sheen is dead. Which is an awful thought considering he’s pretty much the main character in Ferris Buller.

And for the record I definitely play ‘the best friend’ in my sit-com. Not sure if that’s a bad thing or not. On second thought, I don’t eat other people’s food enough to be the best friend.
